"America Supports You," a Department of Defense nationwide initiative, showcases and communicates what thousands of individual citizens, community groups, businesses and others are doing to support our service members and their families.
The America Supports You campaign is reaching Americans at home and military personnel around the world by highlighting the overwhelming show of support and gratitude extended to the brave men and women serving in harm's way. America Supports You is sharing stories of support and motivating others to join the team by bringing words of encouragement and showing respect for and appreciation to members of the Armed Forces and their families.
Messages of support are posted to the America Supports You website, www.AmericaSupportsYou.mil, and shared with members of the military wherever they are stationed. Americans can register their activities of support on the site and learn ways they can join the team.
From Transcript of Remarks by Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld, at Lone Sailor Awards Ceremony at U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation, Washington, D.C., May 3, 2002:
"The great cause of the United States Navy is the cause of freedom. And tonight lone sailors are all across the globe defending our country, defending our families and our freedom. I know that probably an enormous number of the people here, some are today defending it and others have in the past.
